As Prague's elegant riverside quarter, Podolí is one of those neighbourhoods that Praguers are quietly proud of. Nestled on the right bank of the Vltava between the Vyšehrad cliffs to the north and Braník to the south, it has been a sought-after villa quarter since the First Czechoslovak Republic — leafy, calm, and architecturally gracious in a way that central Prague no longer is. The Podolí Swimming Complex — Prague's only Olympic-size pool, a protected cultural monument of distinctive 1960s Brussels-style architecture — is practically on the doorstep, open year-round from 6am. The Vltava embankment path connects you northward toward Vyšehrad and Smíchov, and south toward Žluté lázně, Prague's beloved open-air leisure complex on the river.
